Project 1 I had a partner named Justcye. We worked together for 3 weeks contextualizing this topic. Before this project, I didn't know much about racial injustice and how racial profiling happens every day. And, here's what we did!
Art
For art, Justcye and I made a 3D Printed head displayed in an orange prison cell with the words printed on the back of the head saying, "Guilty, Injustice Help, Unfair, Wrong, and Trail." and finally rested on a Lazy Susan spinner. The Lazy susan symbolizes how people are put into jail from just having one person say "It was them" without thinking about evidence other than verbal confirmation of a bystander. Justcye and I put our piece on a Lazy Susan so people can see the different angles within the piece. I felt that this shows the effort people put into research things and fact checks their opinions or outlooks on social topics like these. This ended up helping me with English and Social Studies because this made me think of all the times I've seen someone accused or arrested over something that isn't their fault or a misdemeanor that doesn't need an arrested for. This made me feel scared because not only am I a victim of a form of racial injustice but, Racial injustice crimes happen every day without people realizing it. The Software's that we used was Tinckercad and FlashPrint.

English
For English, I used another personal experience that happened to me and contextualized it into a children's book. The story that I wrote is called “Playground Troubles”. The main Characters are, a dog named Charlie, a sheep named Bailey and a squirrel named Squirrel. Bailey and Charlie, we're playing tag at the playground. A few rounds in others started to join the game of tag until they meant squirrel. A couple of rounds after meeting Squirrel joined to play tag Squirrel teases Bailey and Charlie for being tired. Charlie controls this situation by making up a new game that's like tag by compromising and taking what Bailey wants to play and what Squarriel wanted to play. Later in the story, Charlie wanted to change something of the game and forgot to compromise so they rethought the final time and played the game. I wanted to write this story about compromise.
The story that I wrote consisted of 2 personal examples of racial injustice. The first example was when people didn't want to play with me. And, the second one is that often time people say, " You don't act like your kind,". I'm not quite sure what to act like but, people seem to compare me with what they think they know. |
Self in the Modern World
For Self in the modern world, I wrote a blog about my personal experience of things that my best friend says to me demonstrates racial differences. I added contextualized it giving my thoughts, facts and a scene from a movie that was recommended by Mr. Wimmer Called “ The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. This movie is about the death of Kalil and how his death impacted the community and friends. Kalil died because an officer shot him thinking that Kalil was holding a weapon but, was actually holding brush.
